The Game Shares Emotional Tribute to Nipsey Hussle
The hip-hop community is mourning the tragic death of Nipsey Hussle.
In the wake of Sunday’s murder, his peers took to social media to pay their respects to the South Central rapper, including Drake, J. Cole, 21 Savage, Cardi B, and The Game, who delivered a heartfelt tribute to his friend on Instagram.
The Compton rapper, who collaborated with Nipsey on 2013’s “They Roll,” shared video of himself driving through Nipsey’s neighborhood around 4 a.m., just hours after he was shot and killed outside his Marathon Clothing store. An emotional Game broke down in tears as he reflected on the tragedy.
“Just driving around Slauson, 4 in the morning, man, ’cause I can’t sleep behind what happened to Nip, man,” said Game. “Why ni**as do the homie like that, man? At his own motherf**kin’ stop. In his own fu**ing hood, man. He was tryna do good for ni**as, man.”
He was so distraught that he was unable to sleep. “I’m disgusted by this shit. That’s how y’all do the homie? In his own city? In his own ‘hood? His own place of business? That’s how ni**as do ni**as,” he said, adding, “L.A. on some bullshit.”
Game also penned a heartfelt note to Nipsey, recalling the time they first met 12 years ago when Nipsey handed him his demo on Crenshaw and Slauson. “From that day to letting you open up for me on tour & us going around the world together, creating a bond & watching your growth to today…… Murdered my friend in front of his own store on a Sunday at that !!!” he wrote.
He revealed that they spoke the night before his death. “After just talking to you on the phone just last night about the Dr. Sebi documentary, family, the kids & how we were both bout to f&$k the summer up with this music, the world loses a true king,” he said. “A man that was truly about everything he spoke & stood up for all that he believed in. I keep seeing your name in these headlines bro, but it seems unreal to me…. like, I just cannot believe you gone !!!!”
A heartbroken Game continued to express his sadness. “I love you….. I’m really broken & saddened by the fact they did this to you SMMFH !!!!!” he said. “I can only imagine what your family is going through right now… This was not how your life on earth was supposed to end !!!!!!!! They don’t even make friends like you no more.”
Meanwhile, overseas another one of Nipsey’s L.A. brothers, Kendrick Lamar, was also paying tribute to his late friend. During his show in Argentina, he took a moment of silence to honor Nipsey.
“Before we got on this stage, we got aware that our brother, our warrior, our soldier Nipsey Hussle passed away. So I want to take this time out to give a moment of silence,” he told the crowd.
Nipsey was shot to death Sunday afternoon in front of his Marathon Clothing store in Los Angeles. Paramedics tried to save him, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital. He was 33.
