Lil Nas X Taps Billy Ray Cyrus for 'Old Town Road (Remix)'

Following the explosive success of “Old Town Road,” viral sensation Lil Nas X teams up with country legend Billy Ray Cyrus on the remix to his genre-bending hit.

The “Achy Breaky Heart” crooner (and father of Miley Cyrus) adds a verse to the Atlanta rapper’s country-inspired rap track, which is currently No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“I’m gonna take my horse to the Old Town Road / I’m gonna ride till I can’t no more,” sings Cyrus on the remix. “Baby’s gotta have a diamond ring and Fendi sports bras / Ridin’ down Rodeo with my Maserati sports car.”

The “country trap” song, which has racked up over 70 million global streams to date, charted on the Hot 100, Hot Country Songs, and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts before Billboard pulled it from the country charts.

“The song is country trap. It’s not one, it’s not the other. It’s both. It should be on both,” Lil Nas X told TIME in response to the controversy. “I believe whenever you’re trying something new, it’s always going to get some kind of bad reception.”

Prior to the song’s release, Cyrus tweeted his support for X. “Been watching everything going on with OTR,” he told the 19-year-old. “When I got thrown off the charts, Waylon Jennings said to me ‘Take this as a compliment’ means you’re doing something great! Only Outlaws are outlawed. Welcome to the club!”
