Jennifer Hudson Performs on ‘Today’

Jennifer Hudson

New York City woke up to the soulful sounds of Jennifer Hudson. Showing off her toned tummy in a “Strong” T-shirt, the powerhouse diva took over Rockefeller Plaza on Tuesday for the “Today” concert series, and belted out “It’s Your World,” “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” and her brand new song “Dangerous” off her upcoming album JHUD, due September 23.

“With this album, I feel as though you get a sense of my energy and that’s why we named it JHUD because you’re getting to know the girl and not just the public persona of Jennifer Hudson,” she said. “I want you to know the person.”

She worked with Timbaland and Pharrell on her third LP, which is a departure from her usual big ballads. “That’s all a part of artistry, is reinventing yourself,” she explained. “I don’t believe in being boxed in, or limits.”

In addition to her career, the Oscar and Grammy winner is busy being a mother to her five-year-old son David, who starts kindergarten this week. “I feel like I just had him!” she said.

Watch JHUD shut down the Plaza with her powerful pipes.
