DaBaby Apologizes to LGBTQ+ Community for 'Hurtful' Comments

  /  08.02.2021

DaBaby is making amends.

A week after his controversial set at Rolling Loud, where he made homophobic and sexist comments, the rapper has issued a formal apology. Taking to Instagram on Monday (Aug. 2), he addressed the massive backlash while admitting that he was uneducated when he made the derogatory remarks about the gay community.

“Social media moves so fast that people want to demolish you before you even have the opportunity to grow, educate, and learn from your mistakes,” he told his 19 million followers. “As a man who has had to make his own way from very difficult circumstances, having people I know publicly working against me—knowing that what I needed was education on these topics and guidance—has been challenging.”

While some chose to publicly condemn his remarks, including Dua Lipa, Madonna, and Questlove, others reached out to him in private and offered to educate him. “I appreciate the many people who came to me with kindness, who reached out to me privately to offer wisdom, education, and resources. That’s what I needed and it was received.”

After previously apologizing for his “insensitive” comments about HIV/AIDS, he also apologized to the LGBTQ+ community as a whole.

“I want to apologize to the LGBTQ+ community for the hurtful and triggering comments I made,” said DaBaby, who turned off comments on the post. “Again, I apologize for my misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS and I know education on this is important. Love to all. God bless.”

The apology arrives after DaBaby was dropped from the lineups of several festivals including Lollapalooza, Governors Ball, and Day N Vegas.
