Snoop Dogg And Latto Reflect On Their Memorable Experiences With Pharrell

  /  10.24.2023

During a recent conversation with Latto, West Coast legend Snoop Dogg recounted a studio session that took an unexpected turn due to the influence of secondhand smoke. The memorable incident involved Pharrell Williams and Stevie Wonder.

The “Gin and Juice” hitmaker opened up about the moment during his chat with the Atlanta rapper for a Rolling Stone feature published today (Oct. 24). He said the situation got comical when the superproducer became unexpectedly high. “We smoking. We in a little a** room. Pharrell’s done got high; he got secondhand smoke. Now Stevie in the booth, and Pharrell ain’t saying s**t,” Snoop began. “Stevie in that motherf**ker trying to figure out what to do. I’m like, ‘Pharrell, produce this n**ga.’”

Snoop amusingly detailed that Pharrell was “so high, he leaves Stevie in the booth, and don’t give him no direction.”

“I don’t know what the f**k to do. I’m not a producer. I told the n**ga, ‘Just play anything.’ When we finished, Pharrell took all of the good s**t that he played,” he added. “It was funny to me that this n**ga [has] been around me this long, but today he finally gets so high that he leaves Stevie in there. They left a n**ga in there, where he had to walk out by himself. Shoutout my n**ga, Stevie.”

For context, the trio convened to record “California Roll,” a cut featured on Snoop’s 2015 album BUSH. Produced by Pharrell, the song peaked at No. 15 on Billboard’s US R&B Songs chart.

During their chat, Latto also chimed in. She shared her awe at being supported by industry titans like the Virginia native. “I had a week of sessions with [Pharrell] in Miami, and I kept [asking] him, ‘What made you want to f**k with me?’ And he was just like, “I f**k with you,’” she recalled. “As someone new stepping into the scene, it’s indescribable to be embraced by people who have already made it in your lane.”
